Living in Bali, Indonesia

Bali needs little introduction for remote workers. The island offers a rare combination: tropical climate, deeply spiritual culture, world-class food scene, and an established infrastructure for digital nomads. Monthly costs for a comfortable lifestyle run $1,000-2,000 depending on your habits.

The coworking and coliving scene is mature here — Canggu and Ubud are essentially purpose-built for remote workers at this point. Canggu gives you surf, beach clubs, and a young international crowd. Ubud delivers rice terraces, yoga, and a calmer pace. Seminyak splits the difference with upscale dining and nightlife.

Visa-wise, Indonesia offers a B211A visa (60 days, extendable) and the newer Digital Nomad Visa for longer stays. The time zone (GMT+8) works well for European afternoon calls and US West Coast mornings.

Rice terrace walks in Tegallalang

The famous stepped rice paddies north of Ubud. Go early morning to beat the crowds and catch the light through the palms.

Uluwatu sunset at Single Fin

Watch surfers ride the reef break below the cliff while the sun drops into the Indian Ocean. One of Bali's best sundowner spots.

Mount Batur sunrise trek

A 2am start for a pre-dawn hike to the volcanic crater rim. Watch sunrise over the caldera with coffee and breakfast cooked in volcanic steam.
