Coliving in Tbilisi

Tbilisi is a rising star on the digital nomad map — visa-free for most nationalities, incredibly affordable, and home to a rapidly growing remote worker community drawn by its unique blend of ancient culture and modern cafe scene.

0 colivings 50-100 Mbps (fiber available in central areas) WiFi Best: May-June and September-October

Tbilisi has emerged as one of the most compelling destinations for digital nomads in recent years. The city’s generous 1-year visa-free policy removes the constant visa anxiety that plagues nomads in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Combined with a cost of living that’s 60-70% below Western Europe, it’s no surprise that the remote worker population has surged since 2021.

Best time to visit

Spring (May-June) is ideal — warm days around 25°C, blooming gardens, and outdoor cafe culture in full swing. Autumn (September-October) brings similar temperatures with harvest season, meaning incredible fresh produce and wine festivals. Summer can be oppressively hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C and limited air conditioning in older buildings. Winter (December-February) is cold and grey, hovering around 0-5°C, but the city is quieter and rents drop.

Nomad community scene

Tbilisi’s nomad community has grown organically. There’s no single dominant hub like Nimman in Chiang Mai, but the Vera and Vake neighborhoods have become the de facto center. Regular meetups happen at coworking spaces like Impact Hub Tbilisi, Terminal, and Loft. Facebook groups and Telegram channels are the primary coordination tools — search for “Digital Nomads Tbilisi” to find them.

The Georgian hospitality culture (guests are considered gifts from God) creates a welcoming atmosphere that goes beyond the nomad bubble. It’s common to be invited to a supra (traditional feast) by locals you’ve just met. The wine culture — Georgia claims to be the birthplace of wine, with 8,000 years of winemaking history — is a natural social lubricant.

Internet and coworking

Internet infrastructure has improved dramatically since 2020. Fiber connections are available in most central apartments, typically delivering 50-100 Mbps. Coworking spaces reliably offer 100+ Mbps. The main coworking options include Impact Hub (international community, events), Terminal (modern, central), and several smaller spaces in Vera. Many cafes are laptop-friendly — Stamba Hotel’s lobby, Lolita, and Leila are popular work spots with decent WiFi.

Mobile data is cheap and reliable — Magti and Geocell offer unlimited 4G plans for GEL 15-30/month (~€5-10), useful as a backup connection. For video calls, stick to coworking spaces or test your apartment connection before committing.

Where to stay in Tbilisi

Vera / Vake

Tbilisi's most popular nomad area. Leafy streets, excellent cafes, coworking spaces, and walkable to the center. A mix of renovated Soviet-era apartments and modern buildings. Slightly pricier than other neighborhoods but worth it for the convenience.

Old Town (Abanotubani / Sololaki)

Atmospheric cobblestone streets, sulfur baths, and wine bars. Beautiful for short stays but can be noisy and touristy. Great for weekend wandering, less practical as a daily base due to steep hills and limited modern amenities.

Saburtalo

A residential neighborhood popular with locals and longer-term nomads. Cheaper rents, good metro access, large supermarkets. Less charm than Vera but more affordable and quieter for focused work.

Common Questions

Why are so many digital nomads moving to Tbilisi?

The combination is hard to beat: 1-year visa-free entry for most nationalities, cost of living under €1,000/month for a comfortable life, fast-improving internet infrastructure, and a cultural richness that keeps things interesting. The food and wine scene alone is worth the trip.

How's the internet for remote work?

Improving rapidly. Fiber is available in central neighborhoods and coworking spaces offer 100+ Mbps. Apartment WiFi can be inconsistent — always test before signing a lease. Cafes vary widely, so stick to coworking spaces for important calls.

Is Tbilisi safe?

Very safe. Georgia consistently ranks as one of the safest countries in the region. Petty crime is rare, and the streets feel safe at night. The main risks are aggressive driving and uneven sidewalks.
