Coliving in Crete, Greece
Avnea Nomad Village · Intentional coliving under Cretan olive trees with mindfulness and growth
The Home
Avnea Nomad Village
Avnea Nomad Village brings together 15 to 20 remote workers in a tranquil Cretan village for experiences lasting one to two weeks. Set among olive groves and whitewashed houses, the program blends coworking with mindfulness workshops, nature immersion, and intentional community building.
The Experience
Days begin with optional morning practices — meditation, yoga, or a walk through the village. Coworking fills the productive hours, with workshops and skill-shares scattered through the week. Evenings bring communal meals, conversations under the stars, and the kind of slow connection that comes from sharing space with curious people in a beautiful setting.
Who It’s For
Avnea is built for creatives, entrepreneurs, and remote workers seeking more than just a desk and WiFi. The program attracts people interested in personal growth, authentic connection, and the particular quality of life that Crete delivers — warm, unhurried, and deeply Mediterranean.

The Vibe
Mornings start with optional meditation or yoga among the olive trees. Coworking fills the productive hours, with workshops and skill-shares scattered through the week. Evenings bring communal meals under the stars, long conversations, and the slow pace that Cretan village life demands.
Weekends often include hikes through the Samaria Gorge, beach trips to Elafonissi or Balos lagoon, or exploring old Venetian harbors like Chania.
Living in Crete, Greece
Crete is Greece's largest island and feels like its own country — with distinct food, dialect, and attitude. The landscape ranges from snow-capped mountains to pink-sand beaches, with olive groves and gorges filling the space between. It's the kind of place where a roadside taverna serves the best meal you've had all month for €8.
For remote workers, Crete offers warm weather from April through November, affordable living, and a pace of life that makes burnout feel impossible. The north coast (Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion) has better infrastructure and internet. The south coast is wilder and quieter. Cretan hospitality is legendary — prepare to be fed by strangers.
Flights connect through Athens or direct from European cities to Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER). A rental car opens up the island dramatically and costs €15-25/day in shoulder season.
Elafonissi Beach
Pink-sand beach on the southwest coast with Caribbean-colored water. Go early morning to beat the crowds — it's about 90 minutes from Chania.
Samaria Gorge
Europe's longest gorge — a 16km hike from the White Mountains down to the Libyan Sea. Challenging but unforgettable. Open May through October.
Chania Old Harbor
A Venetian harbor with waterfront tavernas, a lighthouse, and narrow alleys filled with leather shops and raki bars. The most photogenic spot on the island.

The Honest Briefing
Fly into Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER) depending on which part of Crete you're heading to. Rent a car — public transport exists but is slow and infrequent outside major routes. Buy a Cosmote or Vodafone SIM for €10-15 at the airport. Bring layers — mountain villages are cooler than you'd expect, even in summer.
Where to Eat
- 🍽Tamam, Chania — Cretan-Ottoman fusion in a converted hammam, €12-18/person

- 🍽Avli, Rethymno — upscale Cretan cuisine in a Venetian courtyard, €20-30

- 🍽Thalassino Ageri, Chania — waterfront seafood with the freshest fish on the island, €15-25

Common Questions
What's the WiFi like?
50+ Mbps — functional for video calls and regular remote work. Crete's rural areas have decent 4G coverage as backup via Cosmote.
What's included in the price?
Accommodation, coworking access, mindfulness workshops, community activities, and communal evening meals. Check specific retreat dates for exact inclusions.
How do I get there?
Fly into Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER). The team provides transfer details after booking. A rental car is recommended for exploring the island — about €15-25/day.
How long are the retreats?
Retreats run 1-2 weeks. Check the current schedule for available dates — they fill up during peak season (June-September).
Is it very remote?
It's a village setting, so yes — you're surrounded by olive trees, not nightclubs. But towns with supermarkets and restaurants are usually 10-20 minutes by car.
