Living in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas is the unofficial capital of European digital nomadism. Year-round temperatures between 20-26°C, a 3km urban beach with reliable surf, a proper city with 380,000 people, and one of Europe's largest nomad communities. It has all the infrastructure without the seasonal swings that plague most beach destinations.

The city splits into distinct neighborhoods: Las Canteras beach and the Santa Catalina area for the surf and nomad scene, Triana for shopping and cafes, and Vegueta — the 500-year-old colonial quarter — for culture and nightlife. Rent for a private room runs 400-700 EUR/month, coworking memberships 100-200 EUR. Add in 2 EUR coffees, 10-12 EUR restaurant lunches, and direct flights to most of Europe, and you see why people come for a month and stay for a year.

Surf Las Canteras

A 3km crescent beach right in the city with La Cicer at the south end producing consistent waves. Board rental is 10-15 EUR/day.

Hike Roque Nublo

Gran Canaria's iconic volcanic rock formation, a 1.5-hour drive into the mountainous interior. Short hike with panoramic views across the island.

Old Town Vegueta

The 15th-century colonial quarter with the Cathedral of Santa Ana, the Columbus House museum, and some of the island's best tapas bars.

The Team

Founders

We built this around kite and surf because that's what we live for. But what keeps people coming back is the community — 200+ reviews don't happen by accident. It's the people in the house that make it.

Common Questions

What's the WiFi like?

200 Mbps fibre — strong enough for video calls and streaming. The coworking has ocean views, which helps with the Monday morning motivation.

What's included in the price?

Room, coworking access, WiFi, communal kitchen, and access to terraces. Surf and kite equipment, lessons, and excursions are extra.

How do I get there?

Fly to Gran Canaria (LPA) — direct flights from most European cities. Bus 60 from the airport to Las Palmas costs about 3 EUR, or a taxi is 30-35 EUR.

When's the best time for surf vs kite?

Surf is consistent year-round at Las Canteras. Kiting at Pozo is best from May to September when the trade winds really kick in, but there's wind most of the year.

Is it good for beginners?

Las Canteras has sections for all levels. The south end (La Cicer) works for intermediates, while the calmer central section is fine for beginners. Kiting at Pozo is more advanced — El Burrero nearby is better for learning.
