The Social Club

The Social Club operates two locations in Chiang Mai — old town and Nimman — offering private studios with 24/7 coworking access. A 4.9-star rating across 99 Google reviews makes it one of the highest-rated colivings in Southeast Asia.

The Experience

Chiang Mai has been the Asian capital of digital nomadism for a decade, and The Social Club is one of the reasons. Private studios give you genuine privacy — a rare luxury in coliving — while the coworking space and regular events provide the community. The old-town location puts you among temples, night markets, and the best street food in Thailand. The Nimman location is in the hip, cafe-filled neighbourhood near the university.

The Space

Private studios with kitchenettes, each with its own bathroom. 24/7 coworking space with 300 Mbps internet, meeting rooms, and event space. Both locations are in walkable, central Chiang Mai neighborhoods.

Who It’s For

Remote workers who want the privacy of their own apartment with the community of a coliving. Chiang Mai’s cost of living — exceptional food from a few dollars, professional massages for $10 — makes it one of the best value propositions in the nomad world.

Living in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai is the OG digital nomad city. A decade of remote workers have shaped the infrastructure: reliable fibre internet everywhere, coworking spaces on every block, and a cafe scene that rivals Melbourne. But unlike Bangkok, the pace is manageable — the old town is walkable, the air is cleaner (except burning season in March-April), and the cost of living is absurdly low.

The food alone justifies the trip. Khao soi (coconut curry noodles) for THB 50 ($1.50), som tum papaya salad for THB 30, and pad thai from a street cart for THB 40. The Night Bazaar and Sunday Walking Street market are food experiences in themselves. When you want to upgrade, restaurants like David's Kitchen and Dash deliver world-class dining for $20-30.

The old town is a square-mile grid inside a moat, packed with temples (Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh) and quiet laneways. Nimman, west of the old town, is the hip cafe-and-boutique neighbourhood around Chiang Mai University. Between the two locations, The Social Club has both covered.

Doi Suthep sunset

Take a songthaew (red truck) up the mountain to this golden temple overlooking the whole city. THB 60 each way, and the views at sunset are exceptional.

Sunday Walking Street

The old town's main street transforms into a kilometre-long market of food stalls, crafts, and live music every Sunday evening. Come hungry.

Elephant Nature Park

An ethical elephant sanctuary an hour from the city. Full-day visits ($80) let you feed and walk with rescued elephants — no riding.
