The Home
Karma Surf Retreat
Karma Surf Retreat is a boutique surf and yoga coliving on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, based in a carefully designed villa on Guincho Bay near Cascais. With a capacity of 14 guests and an all-inclusive programme built around surfing, yoga, and healthy food, it offers one of Europe’s most refined coastal coliving experiences for remote workers who want more than just a desk and a good internet connection.
What It Is
Karma Surf Retreat is a permanent coliving for digital nomads and remote workers that pairs structured outdoor activity with a calm, productive work environment. Founded in 2017, the retreat occupies the Guincho Bay Villa — a sea-view property with a yoga deck, sauna, jacuzzi, and pool — and offers a range of weekly packages combining surf lessons, yoga sessions, and optional activities such as SUP, hiking, mountain biking, and climbing. Meals are fully included, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Minimum stay is one week.
The Experience
Days at Karma Surf Retreat follow a satisfying rhythm. Mornings typically start with yoga on the dedicated outdoor deck, followed by a healthy communal breakfast. Surf sessions run during the best window of the day, with experienced instructors guiding beginners and adjusting for those with existing skills. Coworking hours give guests time to stay on top of work commitments before afternoons open up for beach time, optional activities, or exploration of the surrounding coastline. Evenings bring the group together for shared dinners prepared by the on-site chef. The social atmosphere is warm but low-key — a group of 14 people sharing good food and physical activity tends to connect without much effort.
The Space
The Guincho Bay Villa is purpose-built for the retreat experience: private rooms with sea views, a dedicated yoga and coworking house, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and a large garden. Coworking infrastructure supports remote work throughout the day, with reliable connectivity across the property. The Algarve Villa serves as a second location for guests who prefer the south coast. Both properties reflect the same attention to setting that makes Karma Surf Retreat stand out from generic surf camps.
Who It Is For
Karma Surf Retreat appeals to remote workers who prioritise physical activity and want to integrate surfing or yoga into a working week without sacrificing productivity. It suits solo travellers and couples equally, and weekly group turnover keeps the social dynamic fresh. A family package is available for guests travelling with children, with childcare arranged so parents can participate in the surf and yoga programme.
Location Highlights
Guincho Bay sits on the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park coastline, 30 minutes from Lisbon — one of Europe’s most consistent Atlantic surf breaks, with clean west-facing swells arriving year-round. Cascais itself is a lively coastal town with excellent restaurants, a marina, and reliable rail connections to Lisbon. The surrounding natural park offers some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Portugal, with cliffs, dunes, and near-empty beaches within walking distance of the villa.

Work with a Guincho Bay & Cascais Rhythm
Fiber connection · 100 Mbps
Boutique coworking in a villa overlooking Guincho Bay. Meals included — breakfast and dinner daily. Surf lessons and yoga sessions available.
The Vibe
Wake up to the sound of Atlantic waves. Morning yoga on the outdoor deck, then communal breakfast with fresh fruit, granola, and Portuguese coffee. Surf sessions run mid-morning when conditions are best, followed by coworking through the afternoon. The chef prepares dinner every evening — you show up, eat well, and talk to people you surfed with three hours earlier.
Weekends open up for exploring the Sintra-Cascais coastline. Some people hike the cliffs to Cabo da Roca, others take the train into Lisbon for a day. Group trips to Sintra's palaces or Ericeira's surf scene happen organically.
Living in Guincho Bay & Cascais
Guincho Bay sits at the western edge of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, where the Serra de Sintra mountains meet the Atlantic. The beach is one of Europe's most consistent surf spots — west-facing, wind-exposed, and powerful enough to host international competitions, but with sections that work for learners too.
Cascais is a 10-minute drive east — a former fishing village turned affluent coastal town with excellent restaurants, a marina, and a direct train line to Lisbon (40 minutes, €2.30). It has the infrastructure of a proper town without feeling like a resort. There's a Pingo Doce supermarket, good pharmacies, and a Saturday market worth visiting.
For remote workers, the area offers something unusual: genuine Atlantic surf culture within commuting distance of a European capital. Lisbon's tech scene, restaurants, and nightlife are accessible for an evening out, but daily life centers around the quieter coastline. The climate is mild year-round — summer highs around 25-28°C, winter rarely below 10°C — with consistent surf from September through May.
Sintra Day Trip
The fairy-tale palaces and forested hills of Sintra are 20 minutes inland. Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, and Quinta da Regaleira are all walkable from the town center.
Cabo da Roca Coastal Walk
Hike along the cliffs to mainland Europe's westernmost point. Dramatic views, wild coastline, no crowds if you go early.
Lisbon by Train
Catch the commuter train from Cascais to Cais do Sodré in 40 minutes. Perfect for a day exploring Alfama, eating pastéis de nata at Manteigaria, or catching live fado.
