The Vibe
Morning starts with coffee and settling into work — monitors and ergonomic chairs are waiting. Midday brings group lunches or solo trips to nearby cafes. Afternoons are for levada hikes, beach drives, or working through sunset from the terrace. Evenings bring communal dinners, poncha drinks, and the house philosophy of 'everything can, nothing must.'
Full-day island exploration in the shared cars: Pico do Arieiro sunrise, Seixal natural pools, Porto Moniz lava pools, or the Laurel Forest hike.
Living in Madeira, Portugal
Madeira is a volcanic island 1,000km southwest of Lisbon, floating in the Atlantic with a subtropical climate that stays between 17-26°C year-round. It became a nomad hotspot during COVID when Portugal created the Digital Nomad Village in Ponta do Sol, and the infrastructure has grown since — fast fibre internet, coworking spaces, and a growing international community.
The island is small (57km long) but incredibly varied. The north coast is lush, dramatic, and wet. The south coast is drier, sunnier, and where most of the towns are. Funchal, the capital, has proper restaurants, markets, and a harbour. The interior is a UNESCO-protected laurel forest cut by levadas — irrigation channels that double as hiking trails.
Living costs are moderate — cheaper than Lisbon but not rock-bottom. A meal out runs €8-15, coffee is €1-1.50, and the local poncha (sugarcane rum with passion fruit) is about €3. The island rewards exploration: natural lava pools at Porto Moniz, volcanic peaks above the clouds at Pico do Arieiro, and fishing villages where grilled espada (black scabbardfish) is served with banana.
Levada walks
Narrow trails following centuries-old irrigation channels through laurel forests and along cliff edges. The Levada do Caldeirão Verde is the classic — 13km through tunnels and waterfalls.
Pico do Arieiro sunrise
Madeira's third-highest peak (1,818m), accessible by car. Arrive before dawn to watch the sunrise above the clouds — one of Europe's most accessible mountain-top experiences.
Porto Moniz natural pools
Volcanic rock pools on the northwest coast filled by Atlantic waves. Natural swimming at its best, with a small entry fee of €1.50.

Common Questions
What's the WiFi like?
200 Mbps fibre — Madeira has excellent internet infrastructure. External monitors and ergonomic chairs at every workstation add to the setup.
What's included in the price?
Accommodation, coworking with monitors and ergonomic chairs, shared cars for island exploration, and community activities. Meals are not included but there's a full kitchen.
How do I get there?
Fly to Funchal (FNC) — direct flights from many European cities. The airport landing is famously exciting. The house provides directions and can help coordinate arrival.
Are the shared cars really included?
Yes — the house has shared cars available for all guests. You split fuel costs, but the vehicles themselves are included. It's a huge perk since Madeira really needs a car to explore properly.
What's the vibe like?
Relaxed house-share, not corporate coliving. The motto 'everything can, nothing must' means activities are always optional. Some days you'll hike with the group, other days you'll work solo and cook dinner alone. Both are fine.
