Hacker Paradise

Hacker Paradise is one of the original coliving and work-travel programs for remote workers, now operating under the Noma Collective umbrella after a 2024 merger that expanded the destination calendar without changing the community DNA. Founded in 2014, it runs 3-to-4-week editions in destinations across Asia, Latin America, and Europe for groups of up to 18 participants drawn from diverse professional backgrounds.

What It Is

Hacker Paradise is a curated coliving program for remote workers who want to travel meaningfully rather than just move from one Airbnb to the next. Each edition — called a “trip” — drops a small, pre-vetted group into a destination for 3 to 4 weeks, handling accommodation, coworking infrastructure, and a full programme of optional social and cultural events. The name is slightly misleading: the community includes software engineers but also designers, writers, educators, entrepreneurs, and artists. The shared quality is curiosity and a desire to design an unconventional working life.

The Experience

Each Hacker Paradise edition runs a structured but optional programme built around three pillars: community, learning, and cultural immersion. Mornings are work-first — guests have reliable Wi-Fi and coworking space to stay productive. Afternoons and evenings offer workshops, talks, excursions to local landmarks, and the kind of informal hangouts that happen naturally when a small group of curious people shares a space. Past editions have included everything from cooking classes in Oaxaca to city hikes in Seoul. The alumni network, active on Slack, extends the community well beyond any single trip.

The Space

Accommodation and coworking are handled differently per destination — Hacker Paradise selects properties appropriate to each location rather than running a fixed venue. Shared and private room options are typically available, and coworking is integrated into the accommodation or provided at a nearby dedicated space. Stays run 2 weeks minimum, with most participants booking the full edition length.

Who It Is For

Hacker Paradise draws remote workers with an adventurous streak who want the structure of a curated programme without sacrificing professional productivity. It suits people making their first foray into extended travel as much as seasoned nomads who want a community reset. Group sizes are deliberately small — capped at 18 — which means the community forms quickly and genuinely. Multiple alumni return for 5, 10, or more editions.

Location Highlights

The 2026 calendar includes Seoul, Lima, Pipa in Brazil, Oaxaca, and Sri Lanka, among others. Destinations are chosen for cultural richness, remote work viability, and the kind of sensory intensity that makes a month feel genuinely transformative. Seoul offers a hyper-connected city with a distinctive food and nightlife culture; Oaxaca delivers pre-Columbian history, mezcal traditions, and one of Mexico’s most celebrated culinary scenes; Sri Lanka provides coastal beauty and warm-water surfing alongside low daily costs.

The Vibe

Mornings are work-first — the group settles into coworking with strong WiFi and coffee. Afternoons offer optional programming: cultural excursions, workshops, talks by community members, or free time to explore. Evenings bring group dinners, cooking classes, or just hanging out — the small group size (max 18) means conversations go deep fast.

Depends on the destination. Could be a mezcal distillery tour in Oaxaca, a temple visit in Sri Lanka, or a street food crawl in Seoul. Weekend trips are planned but always optional.

Living in Multiple destinations (current: Oaxaca, Mexico)

Hacker Paradise rotates through destinations every 3-4 weeks, so the "where" changes constantly. The 2026 calendar includes Oaxaca, Seoul, Lima, Pipa (Brazil), and Sri Lanka. Each location is chosen for cultural depth, remote work viability, and the kind of sensory richness that makes a month somewhere feel genuinely different from a month at home.

Oaxaca — the current chapter — is one of Mexico's most compelling cities for remote workers. The food scene is world-class (mole, tlayudas, mezcal), the indigenous Zapotec culture runs deep, and the colonial centre is beautiful without being precious. Altitude keeps it cool (1,550m), and the cafe/coworking scene has grown significantly. A meal at a comedor costs 60-80 MXN ($3-4), mezcal tastings are everywhere, and the surrounding valleys hold archaeological sites, artisan villages, and natural springs.

The model is different from fixed colivings — you're buying a curated experience with a pre-vetted group, not just a room. The trade-off is higher cost but lower friction: accommodation, coworking, and programming are all handled, so you just show up and work.

Oaxacan food deep-dive

From market comedores to mezcal distilleries in the Valles Centrales, Oaxaca's food culture is among the richest in the Americas. Budget $3-5 for a market meal.

Monte Alban archaeological site

A Zapotec hilltop city dating to 500 BC, 30 minutes from Oaxaca centre. One of Mesoamerica's most important sites, with panoramic valley views.

Hierve el Agua

Petrified waterfalls and natural infinity pools overlooking the valley. About 1.5 hours from Oaxaca by car — bring a swimsuit.

Common Questions

What's the WiFi like?

50+ Mbps, tested before each edition launches. If the accommodation WiFi isn't strong enough, they set up a dedicated coworking space nearby. Connectivity is a non-negotiable.

What's included in the price?

Accommodation, coworking, cultural excursions, workshops, community events, and trip coordination. Meals are not included in most editions but group dinners happen regularly.

How do I get there?

Depends on the destination. For Oaxaca: fly to OAX directly or connect via Mexico City. The team sends detailed arrival instructions after booking.

Is it only for developers?

Despite the name, no. The community includes designers, writers, marketers, entrepreneurs, educators, and artists. The shared trait is curiosity and remote work capability.

Can I join for just 2 weeks?

Yes — the minimum stay is 2 weeks, though most people book the full 3-4 week edition. The community forms fast either way thanks to the small group size.
