The Vibe
Mornings are for focused work in the cozy coworking area — strong coffee and fjord views out the window. After lunch (included, Norwegian-style), the group heads out for afternoon adventures: glacier walks, waterfall hikes, or fjord kayaking. Evenings bring communal dinners with local fish, berries, and fresh bread, followed by long conversations around the fireplace.
Longer hikes to Folgefonna glacier, boat trips on the Hardangerfjord, or visits to the historic orchard villages along the fjord.
Living in Hardanger, Norway
The Hardangerfjord is Norway's second-longest fjord, stretching 179 km into the mountainous interior. The surrounding landscape is a collision of glacier-carved valleys, apple orchards in bloom (May-June), and waterfalls that drop hundreds of metres into the fjord. It's dramatic in a way that makes your phone camera feel inadequate.
Hardanger is quieter than the more famous Sognefjord or Geirangerfjord — fewer tour buses, more local character. The villages along the fjord have been growing fruit for centuries, and the region produces some of Norway's best cider and fruit wines. Summer brings midnight-sun hiking; autumn brings golden orchards.
Norway is expensive, full stop. A coffee costs 40-55 NOK (€3.50-5), a beer at a bar is 90-120 NOK (€8-11), and eating out means €25-40 per meal. The retreat format (meals included) helps manage this. The landscape, though — that's priceless and you don't pay extra for it.
Folgefonna glacier
One of Norway's largest glaciers, accessible for guided summer walks with crampons. The ice is blue, ancient, and retreating — see it while you can.
Vøringsfossen waterfall
A 182-metre freefall waterfall with a new viewing platform cantilevered over the gorge. One of Norway's most famous natural sites, about an hour's drive.
Hardanger orchard villages
Ullensvang, Lofthus, and Aga — tiny fjord-side villages where apple and cherry trees bloom in May. Cider tastings and farm visits available.

The Honest Briefing
Fly into Bergen Airport (BGO), about 2.5 hours from the Hardanger area by car. The retreat typically arranges group transport. If arriving independently, you can take a bus from Bergen bus station to Odda or Norheimsund. Norway is cashless — card payments work everywhere, even at roadside fruit stands.

How do I get there?
Fly to Bergen (BGO), then it's about 2.5 hours by car or bus into the Hardanger region. The retreat usually coordinates group transport from Bergen.
