Coworking Safari · Remote work meets African wildlife — Cape Town colivings and safari lodges
The Home
Coworking Safari
Coworking Safari is a coliving and remote work travel platform that combines extended stays in Africa with genuine wildlife and nature experiences. Operating since 2017, it serves digital nomads, remote workers, and location-independent teams who want to use Africa as a base — not just pass through as tourists. The offering spans Cape Town coliving, a rural retreat in the Eastern Cape, guided safari packages, and destination guides across South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, and Morocco.
The Experience
The rural South Africa retreat, based in Chintsa on the Eastern Cape coast, is the core coliving product. Guests stay in private accommodation within a laid-back coastal retreat setting, with shared coworking-friendly areas, access to meals, and a community atmosphere that builds naturally from the setting rather than from fixed group arrivals. The pace is slower than Cape Town: mornings work well for deep focus, afternoons open up for beach walks and ocean swimming, and evenings often involve shared dinners.
Optional volunteering with a local community school adds a layer of genuine connection to the surrounding area — guests can support English lessons, sports programs, or community-based projects during their stay. Monthly-stay guests receive a complimentary day safari.
Cape Town coliving programs offer a contrasting urban experience: a city base with access to South Africa’s strongest coworking ecosystem, plus organized game drives and guided safari add-ons during the stay.
The Space
The Chintsa retreat offers private accommodation within a shared-property setting, coworking-friendly common areas, and meal access. Pricing starts from around €325 per week or €1,100 per month. The safari experiences operate through a private conservation game reserve in the Eastern Cape, with all transport, meals, and connectivity provided during game drive excursions. Wi-Fi and local SIM cards are arranged for guests who need to stay connected on the road.
Who It’s For
Coworking Safari suits remote workers who want to base themselves in Africa for weeks or months, rather than rushing through. It is a good fit for solo travellers seeking structure and community in an unfamiliar continent, as well as for remote teams looking for an offsite that offers something more memorable than a city hotel. Minimum stays are flexible — from four nights for shorter visits up to month-long arrangements.
Location Highlights
Chintsa is a small coastal settlement on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, known for its clean beaches, relaxed atmosphere, and proximity to wildlife reserves. Cape Town needs little introduction: it offers mountain hiking, world-class surf, a strong cafe culture, and a time zone convenient for European working hours. The Kruger region provides safari access at a world-class level. Taken together, Coworking Safari covers more of the African continent’s highlights than any other single coliving provider.

Work with a Cape Town & Eastern Cape Rhythm

Dedicated coworking in Cape Town base, plus WiFi-equipped safari lodges in the Kruger region. A unique combination of remote work and wildlife.
The Vibe
In Cape Town, mornings start with coffee and a walk or run along the Sea Point promenade before heading to the coworking space. Work fills the core hours — Cape Town's time zone (GMT+2) overlaps well with European clients. Afternoons open up for exploring the city or afternoon surf at Muizenberg. At the Chintsa retreat, the pace is slower: deep-focus mornings, beach walks in the afternoon, shared dinners in the evening. Safari legs break the work routine entirely — game drives at dawn and dusk, work in between.
Cape Town weekends mean Table Mountain hikes, wine tasting in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, surfing at Muizenberg, or driving down to Cape Point. In Chintsa, weekends lean toward beach time, horse riding on the dunes, or day trips to nearby wildlife reserves.
Living in Cape Town & Eastern Cape
Cape Town is one of those cities that keeps pulling remote workers back. The setting is absurd — Table Mountain drops straight into the city, the Atlantic crashes into boulders at Camps Bay, and penguins waddle around Boulders Beach like they own the place. The cafe and coworking scene is mature, the food is world-class for a fraction of European prices, and the time zone works perfectly for anyone with European or Middle Eastern clients.
The cost of living is the real hook. A flat white at a specialty cafe costs R35-45 (€1.70-2.20). A restaurant dinner with wine runs R250-400 (€12-20). Uber rides across the city are R50-100 (€2.50-5). A furnished apartment in Sea Point or Green Point runs R12,000-18,000/month (€600-900). For the quality of life you get, it's hard to beat.
Chintsa, on the Eastern Cape's Wild Coast, is the counterpoint — a tiny coastal settlement where the main attractions are an empty beach, a lagoon, and genuine silence. It's where Coworking Safari runs its longer retreats, and the contrast with Cape Town is deliberate. The Kruger region adds a third dimension: safari country where you work from lodges and do game drives at dawn.
Table Mountain Sunrise Hike
Take the Platteklip Gorge route for the direct approach or India Venster for scrambling. The cable car runs back down if your legs are done. Get up there before 7 AM and you'll have it nearly to yourself.
Wild Coast Beach Walk
The coastline around Chintsa stretches for miles with almost nobody on it. Walk the beach to the river mouth, spot dolphins from the dunes, and swim in the lagoon.
Stellenbosch Wine Tasting
45 minutes from Cape Town, South Africa's wine country offers tastings at estates like Tokara, Delaire Graff, and Jordan. Most charge R80-150 (€4-7.50) for a flight of 5-6 wines.

What Guests Say
I had a great time working remotely in Cape Town thanks to the help of the team at CoWorking Safari! Brilliant experience.
The Honest Briefing
Fly into Cape Town International (CPT) — direct flights from most European and Middle Eastern hubs. Uber works everywhere in Cape Town and is cheap. For Chintsa, you'll fly into East London (ELS) and drive 50 minutes north. Get a local SIM at the airport from Vodacom or MTN — data is affordable. Cape Town is safe in tourist areas but use common sense after dark; Uber everywhere at night.

Most people come to Africa for two weeks and take photos. We help people come for two months and actually live here. That's when Africa stops being a destination and starts being a place.

Common Questions
What's the WiFi like?
50+ Mbps at the Cape Town base. In Chintsa and safari locations, speeds vary but are sufficient for video calls and standard remote work. Local SIM cards with mobile data are provided as backup.
What's included in the price?
Accommodation, coworking access, and community activities. In Chintsa, meal access is available. Safari excursions include transport, meals, and guided game drives. Cape Town stays are self-catered with a shared kitchen. Monthly guests at Chintsa get a complimentary day safari.
How do I get there?
Cape Town: fly into CPT, Uber to your accommodation (20 min, R200). Chintsa: fly into East London (ELS), 50-minute drive north — the team can arrange pickup. For safari legs, all transport from the base is included.
Is South Africa safe?
Cape Town's tourist areas (Sea Point, Green Point, V&A Waterfront, Camps Bay) are safe and well-patrolled. Standard travel sense applies: Uber at night, don't flash valuables, stay aware. Chintsa is a tiny community where crime is virtually nonexistent. The team briefs everyone on arrival.
What about visas?
Most European, US, and Commonwealth passport holders get 90 days visa-free. South Africa doesn't yet have a dedicated digital nomad visa, but 90 days is enough for most stays. Extensions are possible through immigration offices in Cape Town.
