Living in Briançon, French Alps

Briançon is the highest city in France (1,326m) and one of the most fortified — Vauban's 17th-century ramparts earned it UNESCO status. It sits at the crossroads of five valleys in the Hautes-Alpes, surrounded by peaks that top 4,000m. The air is clean, the sun shines 300 days a year (the driest region of France), and the outdoor access is world-class.

In winter, Serre Chevalier ski resort is practically in town — 250km of slopes at prices well below the big-name resorts (day passes around €45-55 vs €80+ in the Three Valleys). In summer, the hiking, climbing, and mountain biking are endless. The Col du Galibier, Col d'Izoard, and Col du Lautaret are legendary cycling passes.

Briançon is small (12,000 people) but has everything you need — bakeries, restaurants, a weekly market, and a walkable old town within the fortifications. Prices are notably lower than the glitzy alpine resorts — a proper restaurant dinner runs €18-28, and accommodation outside of coliving is €400-600/month. The nearest airports are Turin (2h) and Grenoble (2.5h).

Serre Chevalier Skiing

250km of slopes across 4 valleys, from gentle cruisers to steep off-piste. The terrain is varied and the lift queues are reasonable. Season runs December through April.

Vauban Fortifications

Walk the UNESCO-listed ramparts of the old town — Vauban's military architecture is remarkably intact and the views from the walls are stunning.

Col du Galibier

One of the most famous cycling climbs in the world, regularly featured in the Tour de France. Driving or cycling to the top (2,642m) delivers jaw-dropping alpine scenery.

Founders

We believe the best ideas come when you mix focused work with serious altitude. The mountains don't care about your to-do list — and that perspective is what makes the work better.

Common Questions

What's the WiFi like?

100 Mbps — reliable enough for video calls and daily work, even at 1,326m altitude.

What's included in the price?

Room (shared, private, or ensuite), coworking access, communal areas, mindfulness sessions, and WiFi. Meals are not included but shared cooking is a daily ritual. Ski passes and equipment are extra.

How do I get there?
