Living in Green Point, Cape Town

Cape Town regularly tops lists of the world's most beautiful cities, and for once the hype is justified. Table Mountain dominates the skyline, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet at the Cape, and the winelands are 45 minutes away. For remote workers, the combination of natural beauty, excellent food, and favorable exchange rate makes it hard to beat.

Green Point is one of Cape Town's most walkable and safe neighborhoods — situated between the V&A Waterfront and Sea Point. You can walk to restaurants, gyms, the promenade, and the city's best park (Green Point Urban Park) without ever needing a car. The Atlantic Seaboard (Camps Bay, Clifton) is a short drive or Uber away.

The time zone (UTC+2) works perfectly for European hours. Cost of living is dramatically cheaper than Europe — a great restaurant dinner costs ZAR 300-500 (€15-25), a bottle of excellent wine is ZAR 80-150 (€4-8), and Uber rides across the city are ZAR 60-120 (€3-6). Load shedding (power cuts) has mostly been resolved but backup power at the coliving is a genuine comfort.

Table Mountain Hike

Multiple routes up — Platteklip Gorge for the direct approach, Skeleton Gorge for lush forest, or the cable car if you'd rather save your legs. The views from the top are as good as everyone says.

Chapman's Peak Drive

One of the world's most scenic coastal roads, winding between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. Best on a clear day — stop at the viewpoints and bring a camera.

Kalk Bay

A quirky harbor village on the False Bay coast with antique shops, the legendary Olympia Cafe, and fishermen selling their catch dockside. About 30 minutes from Green Point.
