Coliving in Santos, Lisbon

Creative riverside district near LX Factory with a thriving bar scene and easy access to coworking spaces.

Why Santos works for remote workers

Santos sits along the Tagus river between Cais do Sodre and Alcantara, putting you within walking distance of LX Factory โ€” Lisbonโ€™s most famous creative compound โ€” and the buzzing nightlife strip of Pink Street. Itโ€™s a neighborhood that feels lived-in rather than polished, which is exactly why so many digital nomads end up staying longer than planned.

The area has gentrified steadily over the past few years without losing its grit. Youโ€™ll find converted warehouse apartments, street art around every corner, and a mix of old-school tascas next to specialty coffee shops. Rent is slightly cheaper than Principe Real or Chiado, making it a sweet spot for longer stays.

Where to work

LX Factory is the obvious anchor โ€” multiple coworking spaces, cafes with strong Wi-Fi, and a general creative energy that makes laptop work feel less isolating. Copenhagen Coffee Lab and Hello, Kristof both have reliable internet and donโ€™t mind you camping for a few hours. For a dedicated desk, Second Home Lisboa is a short tram ride away in Mercado da Ribeira.

Food and social life

The riverside location means easy access to Time Out Market for quick meals, but the real gems are the small restaurants tucked into Santosโ€™ side streets. Expect affordable Portuguese lunches (menu do dia for 8-10 EUR) and solid brunch spots on weekends. The bar scene picks up after dark โ€” Rua da Cintura do Porto de Lisboa has a string of waterfront terraces.

Getting around

Tram 25E and multiple bus lines run through Santos. Cais do Sodre station (metro green line, trains to Cascais) is a 10-minute walk. The neighborhood is hilly in parts but mostly flat along the river.

Watch out for

Street noise can be intense on weekend nights, especially near the riverfront bars. Some buildings lack proper insulation, which makes summer heat and winter cold more noticeable. Check for double glazing if youโ€™re noise-sensitive.
