Nine Coliving · Intimate Canarian coliving with yoga, workouts, and community breakfasts

Nine Coliving

Nine Coliving is a community-driven coliving for digital nomads set in a restored 1852 Canarian townhouse in La Orotava, Tenerife. With space for up to 15 guests and a programme built around daily yoga, shared breakfasts, and access to one of Spain’s most scenically remarkable islands, it offers an intimate alternative to the larger, more transactional spaces common in the Canary Islands.

What It Is

Nine Coliving operates from a historic building in the centre of La Orotava, a well-preserved colonial town in the Orotava Valley on Tenerife’s north coast. The house has been carefully converted to serve a small community of remote workers, creatives, and curious travellers who want more than functional accommodation. The coliving offers private rooms, two dedicated coworking areas, daily yoga sessions, and community breakfasts — all within a building that retains its original Canarian architectural character. Minimum stay is 15 days.

The Experience

A typical day at Nine starts with fresh communal breakfast before guests split between the coworking spaces for focused work. Daily yoga sessions run on site, and the wider community programme encourages guests to explore the island together — hiking to the rim of Mount Teide, visiting remote beaches on the wild north coast, or navigating the volcanic landscapes of the Teno massif. La Orotava’s historical centre is walkable, with a strong local food culture, weekly markets, and a calendar of traditional Canarian festivals throughout the year. The 15-person cap keeps the atmosphere genuinely intimate — Nine’s community forms quickly and tends to stay in contact long after guests leave.

The Space

The 1852 building provides private rooms across multiple floors, with two coworking areas offering panoramic views of the Atlantic and the Teide volcano. High-speed internet covers the entire property. Breakfasts are fresh and prepared daily. The architectural quality of the building itself — carved wooden balconies, tiled floors, stone archways — adds a layer of character that purpose-built coliving spaces rarely achieve.

Who It Is For

Nine Coliving draws remote workers who are looking for slow travel rather than destination-hopping: people who want to settle into a place, understand its rhythms, and build meaningful connections within a small community. It suits solo travellers, creatives, writers, and anyone who finds that combining physical activity and community structure makes their working day more sustainable. Tenerife’s year-round mild climate makes Nine a viable base across any season.

Location Highlights

La Orotava sits in a lush valley on Tenerife’s north coast, with a microclimate noticeably greener and cooler than the resort-heavy south. Mount Teide — at 3,715 metres, the highest peak in Spain — is visible from the house and reachable within an hour. Tenerife’s north also offers world-class surf at El Socorro and Almaciga, excellent local wine from the Orotava DO, and a pace of life that feels entirely distinct from the tourist infrastructure of the south. Canary Islands residency rules and direct flights from most European cities make it a practical year-round base.

The Vibe

Mornings start with fresh communal breakfast in the courtyard — fruit, bread, eggs, coffee. People drift into the coworking spaces by 9 or 10, working with views of the Atlantic and Teide through the windows. Yoga runs daily, usually mid-morning or late afternoon. Evenings are loose — some cook together in the shared kitchen, others walk into La Orotava for tapas or wine from the local bodega.

Weekends usually mean hiking — Teide crater, the Anaga forest, or coastal trails along the north shore. Some people rent a car and drive to remote beaches like Benijo or Almaciga. Others just wander the Sunday market in La Orotava.

Living in La Orotava, Tenerife

La Orotava is the town most people skip on Tenerife — and that's exactly why it works for a coliving. While the south coast is all-inclusive resorts and sunburn, the north is green, temperate, and genuinely Canarian. La Orotava sits in a valley at about 400m elevation, looking down toward the Atlantic with Mount Teide rising behind it. The architecture is colonial — carved wooden balconies, flower-filled courtyards, cobblestone streets.

The climate is the real draw for remote workers. Year-round temperatures between 18-26°C, very little rain from April to October, and enough cloud cover in winter to keep things comfortable without needing heating. You can work with the windows open in January.

Cost of living is lower than mainland Spain. A menu del día (three courses with drink) runs €10-13. Supermarkets are cheap, especially for local produce, wine, and cheese. The Orotava DO wines — mostly listán negro — are excellent and cost €5-8 at the bodega. Tenerife North airport (TFN) has direct flights to most European cities, and a monthly bus pass covers the whole island for about €50.

Mount Teide Sunrise

Drive up to 2,100m and hike to the summit at dawn. Spain's highest peak above a sea of clouds — one of those things that actually lives up to the photos.

Anaga Rural Park

Ancient laurel forest on Tenerife's northeast tip. Misty trails through cloud forest with views dropping to hidden beaches below.

North Coast Surf

El Socorro and Almaciga offer consistent Atlantic swells without crowds. Board rental from €15/day at local shops in Bajamar or Punta del Hidalgo.

One of my favourite coliving spots anywhere in the world. The house is great with each room having it's own style and personality. Yoga, breakfast, a nice place to work. What more do you need? :)

A fantastic place to stay. I felt at home the moment I walked in and met the group. It was like being welcomed into a family. I really appreciated the strong sense of community and the events organised with us, which made it easy to connect and feel involved from the start.

The Honest Briefing

Fly into Tenerife North (TFN) for the quickest access — it's 25 minutes to La Orotava by car. Tenerife South (TFS) has more budget airline routes but is a 90-minute drive. Grab a SIM from Movistar or Orange at the airport — prepaid plans around €15 for 20GB. The TITSA bus network covers the island well, but a car makes weekend exploring much easier.

We wanted to create a space where people slow down enough to actually connect — with each other and with the island. Tenerife rewards patience. The best stuff here isn't on TripAdvisor.

Common Questions

What's the WiFi like?

300 Mbps fiber. Fast and reliable — handles video calls, large uploads, and multiple devices without issues. Coverage across the whole property including the garden coworking areas.

What's included in the price?

Accommodation, daily breakfast, coworking access, daily yoga sessions, and community events. Lunches and dinners are self-organized — the shared kitchen is well-equipped and La Orotava has excellent cheap food.

How do I get there?

Fly into Tenerife North (TFN) for the easiest access — 25 minutes by taxi or bus to La Orotava. Tenerife South (TFS) has more budget routes but is 90 minutes away. The TITSA bus from TFN airport runs regularly.

What's a guachinche?

A seasonal family-run eatery — usually someone's garage or patio — where they serve homemade wine and simple Canarian food. They're unlicensed, unmarked, and incredible. The Nine team will point you to the current open ones.

Is 15 days enough to settle in?

The 15-day minimum is short enough to try it out but long enough to get past the tourist phase. Most people extend once they're here. One-month stays are common and give you the best experience of the island's rhythm.
