The Home
Surfbreak Coliving
Surfbreak Coliving is a two-location coliving network built for remote workers who want to combine serious productivity with surf culture and outdoor living. Its Hawaii property holds the distinction of being the first coliving and coworking penthouse in the state, and its Mexico location puts members within steps of one of the world’s most famous surf breaks.
What It Is
Surfbreak operates as a membership-based coliving for digital nomads with an all-inclusive model covering accommodation, coworking, community events, and access to surf and outdoor gear. The two locations — Surfbreak HNL in Honolulu and Surfbreak PXM in Puerto Escondido — attract a community of remote workers, creatives, entrepreneurs, and adventure seekers united by a preference for living well while working remotely.
The Experience
Surfbreak’s community programming includes guest speaker events, developmental workshops led by members and local experts, group social outings (hiking, freediving, surfing, community service), and a serendipitous exchange culture where professional and lifestyle conversations happen in the same spaces. The team describes the community as a lifelong ohana — the Hawaiian concept of chosen family — and the emphasis on giving back extends to volunteer opportunities woven into the schedule.
The Space
Surfbreak HNL occupies the 40th floor of an Ala-Moana building with floor-to-ceiling glass and panoramic views across Oahu. Private rooms range from twin to king corner suites, each with a desk, mini-fridge, wired and wireless high-speed internet, and fresh linens. Shared amenities include a rooftop pool, running track, tennis court, conference rooms, fully equipped kitchen, and a social lounge. Surfboards and diving gear are included. Surfbreak PXM is a private gated villa in Puerto Escondido, positioned between the La Punta and Zicatela neighbourhoods — the heart of the town’s surf scene.
Who It Is For
Surfbreak is designed for remote workers who want more than a place to park a laptop — people who are genuinely drawn to surf culture, outdoor adventure, and a values-aligned community. Minimum stays are two months, which filters for members who are committed to building real connections rather than passing through. The price range (USD 1,605–3,305/month in Hawaii) reflects the all-inclusive model and the premium of the penthouse setting.
Location Highlights
Honolulu places members within ten minutes’ walk of Waikiki Beach, Ala Moana Beach Park, and some of Oahu’s best surf spots. Diamond Head, Manoa Falls, and Tantalus hikes are twenty minutes away. The local dining scene covers everything from poke to Hawaiian BBQ. Puerto Escondido is one of Mexico’s top surf destinations, famous for the Mexican Pipeline at Zicatela, along with calmer breaks at La Punta and Carrizalillo Beach — a strong base for surfers at any level.

Workspace
Work with a Honolulu, Hawaii & Puerto Escondido, Mexico Rhythm
Fiber connection · 200+ Mbps
Coworking from a penthouse in Hawaii and beachfront in Puerto Escondido. High-speed fiber internet and dedicated desk areas with surf break views.
The Vibe
In Hawaii, mornings start early — dawn patrol surf sessions before work, then breakfast and coworking from the 40th floor with panoramic views of Oahu. The penthouse setup means your commute is an elevator ride. Afternoons flex between focused work and ocean time — Ala Moana Beach Park is a 10-minute walk. Community events happen several times a week: guest speakers, workshops, freediving sessions, group hikes. In Puerto Escondido, the rhythm shifts to a more laid-back pace — surf at sunrise, work from the villa, sunset beers on the roof.
Hawaii weekends mean hiking Diamond Head or Manoa Falls, exploring the North Shore, or joining the group for a freediving session. In Puerto Escondido, weekends are for Zicatela's waves, mezcal tastings, and day trips to the lagoons at Chacahua.
Living in Honolulu, Hawaii & Puerto Escondido, Mexico
Honolulu is not the obvious choice for a coliving — it's expensive, it's far from everywhere, and most people think of it as a vacation destination. But that's exactly what makes it work. Surfbreak's 40th-floor penthouse in Ala Moana puts you in a real city with real infrastructure — supermarkets, gyms, transit, hospitals — while being 10 minutes from world-class surf. The time zone is HST (UTC-10), which works well for West Coast US clients and gives you mornings free when Europe is asleep.
Puerto Escondido is the counterpoint — raw, affordable, and built around surf. Zicatela is famous for the Mexican Pipeline, one of the heaviest beach breaks in the world, but La Punta and Carrizalillo offer mellow waves for everyone else. The town has matured significantly: good coffee, reliable WiFi in the right spots, and a growing community of remote workers and creatives. Cost of living is a fraction of Hawaii — you can eat three meals a day and drink mezcal every night for under $30.
The two-location model gives members a season in each: Hawaii's consistent winter surf and US-grade infrastructure, followed by Mexico's warmth, affordability, and creative energy.
Diamond Head Sunrise Hike
The classic Oahu hike — 20 minutes from the penthouse, summit views of Waikiki and the Pacific at dawn. Do it once, then do it again with every new arrival.
North Shore Surf Day
Drive 45 minutes to the North Shore for Pipeline, Sunset Beach, and Waimea Bay. Winter swells bring world-class waves; summer is calm and swimmable.
Puerto Escondido Beach Crawl
Walk from the mellow waves at Carrizalillo to the thundering barrels at Zicatela in 20 minutes. Stop at La Punta for fish tacos and a cerveza between breaks.

What Guests Say
Honestly, I can’t describe how much this place changed my life. I was working way too hard and alone on my YouTube channel beforehand, and the community at SurfBreak was simply unmatched. Everyone has such a great vibe and I’ve already seen Surfbreakers out on the mainland after my short lease ended
Calling all digital nomads: I could not recommend this place any more highly. The people that stay there are very respectful of the space and it’s such an easy way to make quick friends. The accommodations are nice, the location is solid, and the community is the highlight. I’ve stayed twice and can

The Surfbreak Team
Founders
We built Surfbreak because we couldn't find a place that took both remote work and surf culture seriously. The penthouse in Hawaii isn't a gimmick — it's a statement that you can have ocean views, a world-class coworking setup, and a community that feels like family. We call it ohana because that's what it actually becomes.

Common Questions
What's the WiFi like?
200+ Mbps fiber in Hawaii — the penthouse has enterprise-grade internet. Puerto Escondido has reliable high-speed connections with backup. Both locations are tested and maintained for full-time remote work.
What's included in the price?
Accommodation, coworking space, community events, guest speaker sessions, surf and diving gear access, rooftop pool, gym, conference rooms, and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals and flights are not included.
How do I get there?
Hawaii: fly into HNL, take a taxi or TheBus to Ala Moana (15 min). Puerto Escondido: fly into PXM directly, or fly to Oaxaca City (OAX) and take the mountain shuttle (6 hours, ~$25). The team can help coordinate arrivals.
Why is the minimum stay 2 months?
Two months is long enough to build genuine connections, establish a work rhythm, and actually experience the destination beyond the tourist surface. Hawaii especially rewards longer stays — the island reveals itself slowly. One-month visitors barely scratch it.
Is Hawaii really worth the cost?
It's expensive compared to Southeast Asia or Latin America, no question. But you're getting a 40th-floor penthouse, US-grade internet and healthcare, year-round warm water surf, and a time zone that gives you quiet mornings for deep work. For US-based remote workers especially, it's hard to beat.
