“How much does coliving cost?” is the question I get asked most. The answer is annoyingly vague: it depends. But after three years of running a coliving and living in dozens of others, I can give you real numbers instead of marketing fluff.
Here’s what coliving actually costs in 2026, broken down by region.
The quick overview
| Region | Shared Room | Private Room | Ensuite/Studio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Southeast Asia | €250–€400 | €400–€600 | €600–€800 |
| Latin America | €300–€500 | €500–€800 | €800–€1,200 |
| Southern Europe | €500–€800 | €800–€1,200 | €1,200–€1,800 |
| Western/Northern Europe | €800–€1,200 | €1,200–€1,800 | €1,800–€2,500 |
| Africa | €400–€600 | €600–€800 | €800–€1,000 |
These are monthly rates. Weekly stays are proportionally more expensive — usually 30-50% premium over the monthly rate.
What’s usually included
Most colivings bundle these into the price:
- Accommodation (furnished room, bedding, towels)
- WiFi (this is non-negotiable — if a coliving has bad WiFi, it’s not a coliving)
- Utilities (electricity, water, gas)
- Common areas (kitchen, living room, sometimes a pool or garden)
- Coworking space (desks, monitors, sometimes standing desks)
- Community events (weekly dinners, excursions, skill-shares)
- Cleaning (usually weekly for common areas, sometimes for rooms too)
What’s usually NOT included
- Food — Most colivings have a shared kitchen but don’t provide meals. Some include breakfast, a few include all meals (Château Coliving and Fjord Coliving are notable exceptions). Budget €200-€400/mo for groceries depending on the country.
- Laundry — Sometimes included, sometimes €2-5 per wash.
- Airport transfers — Almost never included.
- Activities and excursions — Some colivings include a few per month, others charge extra. Pop-up colivings tend to include more.
- Coworking external — If the coliving doesn’t have a workspace, you’ll need a coworking membership (€100-€300/mo).
Region breakdown
Southeast Asia (€250–€800/mo)
Bali, Thailand, and Vietnam remain the cheapest options with the highest quality-of-life ratio. A private room in a Bali coliving runs €400-€600/mo. Chiang Mai is even cheaper. The catch: you’re far from European time zones, and visa rules vary wildly.
Total monthly budget: €800–€1,500 (coliving + food + transport + fun).
Latin America (€300–€1,200/mo)
Mexico City, Medellin, and Buenos Aires are the big hubs. Prices have risen since 2023, but the value is still strong. Brazil (where we’ve run chapters) is mid-range — expect €500-€900/mo for a solid coliving, with food being ridiculously cheap once you’re outside tourist zones.
Total monthly budget: €1,000–€2,000.
Southern Europe (€500–€1,800/mo)
This is the sweet spot for most nomads. Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece offer strong infrastructure, good weather, and reasonable prices outside capital cities. Lisbon and Barcelona are on the expensive end. The Canary Islands, southern Italy, and Greek islands are better value.
Total monthly budget: €1,500–€2,800.
Western & Northern Europe (€800–€2,500/mo)
Germany, France, Scandinavia, Netherlands. You’re paying first-world prices for first-world infrastructure. Berlin is the budget option here. Norway and Switzerland are premium. The upside: rock-solid WiFi, excellent public transport, and no visa hassles for EU citizens.
Total monthly budget: €2,200–€4,000.
Africa (€400–€1,000/mo)
Cape Town, Marrakech, and Nairobi are the main coliving hubs. Cape Town offers arguably the best value-for-quality ratio in the world — stunning setting, good colivings, and €600-€800/mo gets you a private room. Internet reliability varies more than other regions.
Total monthly budget: €1,000–€1,800.
How to actually budget
Step 1: Pick your region based on time zone needs, visa situation, and personal preference — not just price.
Step 2: Add 30-40% on top of the coliving price for food, transport, insurance, and fun money.
Step 3: Keep an emergency buffer of one month’s expenses. Flights home aren’t cheap when booked last-minute.
Step 4: Book monthly, not weekly. The monthly rate is always better, and you’ll actually have time to settle in and get productive.
The hidden value of coliving
Here’s what the price comparison misses: coliving replaces multiple expenses at once. You’re not paying separate rent, WiFi, electricity, coworking, and a social life. When you factor in everything a coliving includes — especially community and networking — the €800-€1,200/mo for a European coliving is often cheaper than renting an apartment and paying for coworking separately.
