Coliving in Poblenou, Barcelona

Former industrial district turned tech hub with beach access, converted warehouses, and Barcelona's densest cluster of coworking spaces.

Why Poblenou works for remote workers

Poblenou is Barcelonaโ€™s answer to the question โ€œwhat if you could have a tech neighborhood thatโ€™s also on the beach?โ€ The @22 innovation district brought startups, coworking spaces, and creative studios into old factory buildings, and the neighborhood has been steadily reinventing itself ever since. You get the productive energy of a business district without the suit-and-tie atmosphere.

The beach is a 10-minute walk from most apartments. Rambla del Poblenou โ€” the neighborhoodโ€™s tree-lined pedestrian street โ€” has a village feel with local shops, cafes, and old-timers playing cards at outdoor tables. It manages to feel both modern and rooted, which is rare in Barcelona.

Where to work

This is coworking paradise. MOB, Aticco, OneCoWork, and Spaces all have locations here. For cafe workers, Nomad Coffee and Satanโ€™s Coffee Corner (yes, really) both welcome laptops. The Barcelona Activa business incubator is in the area too. Wi-Fi quality across the neighborhood is generally excellent โ€” many apartments and cafes have fiber connections.

Food and social life

Poblenouโ€™s food scene balances old-school tapas bars with trendy brunch spots and international restaurants. Els Quatre Gats and Can Recasens are local institutions. The Palo Alto market (first weekend of each month) is a design and food festival in a former factory. Nightlife is more low-key than Raval or Gotico โ€” think craft beer bars and rooftop terraces rather than clubs.

Getting around

Metro L4 (yellow line) has two stops in Poblenou. The Bicing bike-sharing system is everywhere, and the flat terrain makes cycling practical. Tram T4 connects to the Forum area. You can walk to Barceloneta beach in about 20 minutes.

Watch out for

Gentrification has pushed rents up significantly โ€” expect 900-1,400 EUR for a one-bedroom. Some streets still feel deserted at night, especially deeper into the @22 zone. The beach crowds in summer can be overwhelming, and petty theft on the sand is a real thing. Supermarket options are sparser than in Eixample or Gracia.
