Coliving in Camden, London

Alternative culture capital of London with legendary markets, live music venues, and a diverse, creative community.

Why Camden works for remote workers

Camden Town has been Londonโ€™s counterculture headquarters since the punk era, and while itโ€™s become more commercial over the years, it still retains an edge that most London neighborhoods have polished away. The famous Camden Market draws tourists by the thousands, but step away from the high street and youโ€™ll find a genuinely diverse residential area with strong community ties, affordable-ish rent (by London standards), and easy access to Regentโ€™s Park and the canal towpath.

For digital nomads, Camden offers a balance of energy and affordability. The Northern line puts you in central London quickly, the food scene is international and budget-friendly, and thereโ€™s always something happening โ€” gigs, markets, comedy nights, street performances. Itโ€™s messy and loud and imperfect, which is exactly why creative people keep choosing it.

Where to work

Camden has fewer dedicated coworking spaces than Shoreditch, but it makes up for it with cafes that welcome remote workers. The Good Egg, Greenberry Cafe, and Bould Brothers Coffee all have Wi-Fi and donโ€™t mind you staying. For proper coworking, TOG (The Office Group) has a space at Camden Lock, and there are several options around Mornington Crescent. The British Library is a 15-minute walk from Camden Town station.

Food and social life

Camden Market is a food destination in itself โ€” youโ€™ll find everything from Ethiopian injera to Venezuelan arepas to Japanese katsu. Beyond the market, the neighborhood has excellent pubs (The Hawley Arms, The Lock Tavern), curry houses on Parkway, and dim sum on Inverness Street. The live music scene is legendary โ€” The Roundhouse, Jazz Cafe, and Dingwalls all host regular shows.

Getting around

Camden Town station (Northern line) is the main hub, though it can get crushingly busy on weekends and is sometimes exit-only. Chalk Farm station is a 5-minute walk north. Bus routes 24, 29, 134, and 274 cover the major routes. The canal towpath provides a scenic walking and cycling route to Kingโ€™s Cross or Little Venice.

Watch out for

The market area is tourist chaos on weekends โ€” avoid if you need to focus. Street noise is constant on Camden High Street. Some side streets have drug activity. Apartments above shops can be noisy and poorly maintained. The Northern line at Camden Town is uncomfortably packed during rush hour. And despite its โ€œalternativeโ€ reputation, parts of Camden are thoroughly gentrified now.
